ICV Meridian
She is not a weapon that happens to carry a city. She is a city that refuses to let the roads go dark.
The Helion Compact was signed in Cycle 2419 on the glass steps of Caldera Prime, six weeks after the Lattice Schism inverted the Pale Gate corridor and cut the old Stellar Assembly in two. Seven surviving polities — yards, relays, and quiet worlds that still had working beacons — bound themselves to a single promise: keep the roads open. Not empire. Not crusade. Navigation, held in common.
ICV Meridian was laid down in 2462 as the Compact’s answer to distance. Horizon-class: a four-kilometre needle of ice-black ceramic and carbon, three offset habitat rings turning at a human 0.92 g, a ventral canyon that can swallow a township of craft. She launched in 2471 and took her name from the first restored meridian — the line of beacons that let lost ships find home after the Schism.
Aboard her live 8,420 souls. Command, helm, tactical, the torus hall, the observatory, the infirmary, the quiet rooms of intelligence, the diplomatic court under the glass spine. She is flagship, lighthouse, and last-resort fortress. When Compact law must be spoken far from Caldera, it is spoken from this bridge.
Cycle 2487. The Veil Expanse is going out. Six lattice nodes have fallen silent in fourteen weeks — not with wreckage, not with distress, simply absent, as if the road had been folded away. Meridian is on station to relight them. Science will not say the lattice is being eaten. Intelligence will not say by whom. The logs, privately, say both.
